OpenAI Adds Virtual Try-On and Favorites to ChatGPT Shopping
OpenAI has launched two new shopping features for ChatGPT globally, adding a virtual try-on tool and a Favorites feature to help users shop more easily.
The update expands ChatGPT’s role in online shopping as AI companies continue testing consumer-focused features in this category.
Virtual Try-On Comes to ChatGPT
The new virtual try-on feature allows users to upload a selfie or full-body photo to see how clothing or accessories might look on them.
The option will appear as a new “Try On” button in ChatGPT’s shopping results.
Users can also upload an image of an item, such as a screenshot from the web, and ask ChatGPT to show how it would look when worn.
OpenAI said the feature is powered by its recently launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which the company says offers more natural lighting, richer textures, more reliable editing and lower image generation latency.
Favorites Lets Users Save Products
The second new feature, Favorites, allows users to save products they discover in ChatGPT to a Library for later viewing.
According to OpenAI, saved items will appear alongside users’ virtual try-on images inside the app.
Broader Push Into Shopping
OpenAI said ChatGPT can also assist shopping in other ways.
For example, users can describe a style they want and ask ChatGPT to find items to build that look. They can also upload photos of celebrity outfits and ask the chatbot to identify similar items available for purchase.
That pushes ChatGPT further into a space already occupied by platforms like Google and Pinterest, especially in fashion discovery and visual shopping.
Shopping Remains an Experimental Area
The update comes as OpenAI continues experimenting with how ChatGPT can support shopping.
The company had previously tested an instant checkout feature, but later moved away from that idea after it failed to perform well.
The broader AI shopping market is also seeing mixed reactions. While some companies are promoting proactive product recommendations, not all users have welcomed those efforts.
Whether ChatGPT becomes a preferred shopping tool for users remains uncertain, particularly as competitors like Google have already introduced virtual try-on features.
