Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon inaugurated the Mosamiyat Flyover on Sunday as part of the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, according to his spokesperson.
Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani and Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad accompanied Memon during his visit to the Red Line corridor. Officials briefed him on the ongoing construction work and the progress of the project before the inauguration.
Memon said the flyover represents an important component of the Red Line project. He said authorities would complete the required protocols before opening the flyover to the public within two days of the inauguration.
He said construction contracts initially covered a two-year period, but rising inflation increased the costs of materials and other inputs during the project. He cited increases in the dollar, cement prices and petrol prices as major challenges.
Despite the rising costs, Memon said the government continued work on the project and resolved related matters through agreements and consultations with relevant institutions.
He credited the project team for completing the work quickly and said the development had largely resolved commuting difficulties on University Road. Memon added that work on the Red Line BRT, including station construction, continues at a rapid pace.
