National Savings Announces Higher Profit Rates

The federal government has increased profit rates on major National Savings certificates by up to 19 basis points (BPS), offering higher returns to investors in this period of high inflation.

According to a notification issued by the National Savings Department, the revised rates took effect from October 1, 2026. Some rates are now much higher than the central bank’s benchmark lending rate of 11.5 percent.

Under the new structure, the rate of return on Short Term Savings Certificates has been increased by 3 BPS from 11.28 percent to 11.31 percent.

The profit rate on Pensioners Benefit Account has been fixed at 12.72 percent, up 12 BPS from 12.6 percent.

Defence Savings Certificates now offer a profit rate of 11.8 percent, 19 BPS higher than the previous rate of 11.61 percent.

The profit rate on Bahbood Savings Certificates has increased by 12 basis points to 12.72 percent.

The Serwa Islamic Term Account and Serwa Islamic Saving Account now offer an 11.33 percent rate of return each.

Changes in profit rates generally follow movements in interest rates and broader monetary policy trends.
