Mohsin Naqvi Issues Security Warning
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is “at war” and warned that security matters in the province cannot be politicized.
He said the KP government had agreed to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours. The provincial government has now backed out of those commitments, Naqvi added.
The proposed commitments included reconsidering the Police Act 2026 in view of the security situation and ensuring that security matters remain protected from political interference.
The agreement also required the provincial government to prevent terrorists from operating freely or establishing safe havens in the province and to unequivocally condemn the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, the Afghan Taliban and all other terrorist groups.
The commitments further covered support for the national policy on Afghan refugees, including repatriation and dismantling Afghan camps in KP, along with no contact with the interim Afghan government.
The KP government had also agreed to provide substantial funding for counterterrorism operations and police, take full provincial ownership of counterterrorism measures, strengthen coordination with the armed forces, address security decisions in former FATA and the merged districts, and implement the National Action Plan.
Naqvi said the KP government backed out of these commitments during the final phase of negotiations last night. He maintained that security must not be politicized while the province is at war.
