Mike Hesson Set to Continue as Pakistan’s Test Head Coach
Mike Hesson is likely to continue as Pakistan’s head coach for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in November.
According to reports, Hesson was assigned interim head coaching responsibilities ahead of Pakistan’s third Test against England and is expected to retain the role for the Sri Lanka series. However, an official decision has yet to be announced.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) brought in Hesson after removing head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul following defeats in the first two Tests against England. The board also made several changes to the squad, replacing seven players.
Hesson had earlier expressed interest in taking charge of Pakistan’s Test team on a permanent basis. Speaking after the third Test against England in September, he said he was open to the role but stressed that improving the team’s performance would take time.
The upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27. The first Test will take place in Rawalpindi from November 9 to 13, followed by the second in Lahore from November 17 to 21.
Hesson currently serves as Pakistan’s permanent white-ball head coach and recently guided the team to a 2-1 victory in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Following the series, he praised T20I captain Sahibzada Farhan’s leadership and expressed confidence in young fast bowler Razaullah, who made his international debut during the third Test against England.
