LPG Prices Remain Out of Reach in Several Pakistani Cities

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices have remained high across Pakistan despite the arrival of two cargo ships from Oman, with rates in several cities reaching Rs. 600 to Rs. 650 per kilogram.

According to local market prices, LPG is selling for Rs. 550 per kg in Karachi, Rs. 570 in Peshawar, and Rs. 600 in Attock, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. In Quetta, prices fell by Rs. 30 to Rs. 520 per kg.

Meanwhile, LPG shops in Lahore remained closed for a second consecutive day due to a strike.

The two LPG cargo ships from Oman arrived at Pakistani ports on Sunday, raising expectations of a price decline. However, prices have yet to fall significantly across most markets.

The price surge has pushed LPG cylinder costs above Rs. 10,000 in some parts of Pakistan, while an 11kg domestic cylinder has reached Rs. 6,500 in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The official LPG rate stands at Rs. 279.34 per kg, but consumers are paying substantially more amid supply shortages and limited enforcement.
