Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has thanked citizens for “cooperating” with the government by enduring a few hours of night-time load management, saying their sacrifice helped reduce electricity costs.
He said the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for August 2026 fell to around Rs. 1.73 per unit from Rs. 2.0851 per unit in the previous month. He said the Power Division prevented an additional burden of more than Rs. 10.6 billion on consumers and also saved valuable foreign exchange.
Leghari credited consumers for supporting the government by accepting loadshedding during nighttime hours.
He thanked the public for helping reduce electricity prices at a time when global fuel prices are rising and international energy markets are under pressure due to the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.
The minister said greater use of local energy sources was a key factor behind the lower cost. In August, around 72 percent of total electricity generation came from domestic sources, including hydel at 38 percent, local coal at 11 percent, nuclear at 10 percent, local gas at 7 percent, wind at 6 percent and solar at 1 percent.
The remaining 28 percent of generation came from imported coal and RLNG.
Leghari said RLNG supply disruptions pushed spot cargo prices to $23-$25 per MMBtu, making them unusually expensive.
He added that the Power Division also worked with the Petroleum Division and the National Coordination and Monitoring Committee (NCMC) to arrange additional local gas for the power sector.
