Lahore Cracks Down on Smoke-Emitting Vehicles
Authorities in Lahore have fined 1,763 smoke-emitting vehicles a combined Rs. 5.5 million during the current month as part of an ongoing crackdown on air pollution.
During the same period, officials impounded 739 vehicles and removed excess loads from overloaded vehicles to ensure compliance with traffic and environmental regulations.
Authorities also stepped up inspections of industrial and commercial facilities across the Lahore Division. Teams inspected 2,018 industrial units, sealing 41 factories and 146 restaurants over their role in causing pollution.
Meanwhile, officials took action at 49 locations across the division against the burning of crop residues, a major contributor to seasonal air pollution.
The crackdown resulted in the registration of eight first information reports (FIRs). Authorities also imposed fines totaling Rs. 240,000 on those involved in burning crop remains.
Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousuf shared these figures during a meeting held under his chairmanship to review the ongoing anti-pollution measures.
The enforcement drive covers smoke-emitting vehicles, industrial pollution, overloaded transport, and the burning of agricultural waste across the division.
