KU Proposes Pakistan-China AI and Cybersecurity Center

The University of Karachi (KU) has proposed establishing a Pakistan-China Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Cybersecurity and a Pakistan-China Museum to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education, scientific research, technology, innovation and cultural exchanges.

The proposals were discussed during a meeting between KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Wasim Qazi and Chinese Acting Consul General Feng Deheng at the Chinese Consulate General in Karachi.

The meeting focused on expanding academic and institutional collaboration between Pakistan and China through joint research projects, faculty and student exchange programmes, technological innovation, and initiatives to promote the Chinese language and culture.

Dr Qazi emphasised that the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations and the 75th anniversary of KU should be translated into tangible academic, scientific and cultural achievements.

He stressed the need to launch joint research initiatives, technological innovation projects and professional training programmes in fields including agriculture, biotechnology, food technology, maritime economy, energy, pharmacy, microbiology and sociology. The AI and cybersecurity centre would provide a platform for collaborative research, advanced technological development, student training and faculty capacity-building.

Feng appreciated KU’s contribution to promoting educational cooperation between the two countries, particularly through its Confucius Institute, and expressed determination to further strengthen academic ties between Pakistani and Chinese universities.

The meeting also considered establishing a Pakistan-China Museum at KU to preserve and showcase the shared historical heritage of the two countries, housing historical records, academic resources, important documents and cultural artefacts.

Another proposal envisaged establishing a Hall of Fame to recognise distinguished personalities who have made significant contributions to education and scholarship. Dr Qazi reaffirmed his commitment to translating the proposals into practical initiatives, joint research programmes and formal institutional agreements.

He plans to visit China in November to meet representatives of leading Chinese universities and explore potential agreements covering scientific research, modern technology, academic exchanges and institutional cooperation.
