KP to Introduce New Matric and Inter Curriculum
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to implement the National Curriculum of Pakistan 2026 for classes 9 to 12 from the 2027 academic year, making the use of approved textbooks mandatory for all schools.
The Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education has issued instructions for the implementation of the revised curriculum, while the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority has directed private schools across the province to ensure compliance.
The new curriculum will cover English, Urdu, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics for classes 9 to 12. General Science will be included for classes 9 and 10 only.
Under the new arrangements, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board will prepare or revise textbooks according to the updated curriculum. All educational boards will also conduct examinations based on the revised syllabus.
Textbooks prepared or revised under the new curriculum must receive prior approval from the Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education before they can be distributed to schools.
The Private Schools Regulatory Authority has instructed school principals to carefully review the directives and ensure that the required changes are implemented before the 2027 academic year begins.
Authorities have warned that schools and other concerned entities failing to comply could face legal action under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Supervision of Curricula, Textbooks and Maintenance of Standards of Education Act, 2011.
The decision will require schools, textbook boards, and publishers to update their teaching materials and examination preparation in line with the revised curriculum.
