Israel Has Been Working on Plague Vaccine Since 2025?
Researchers in Israel are developing an experimental mRNA vaccine against pneumonic plague, as concerns about potential outbreaks continue to draw attention to the disease.
The vaccine is being developed by researchers from Tel Aviv University and the Israel Institute for Biological Research, led by Prof. Dan Peer.
Researchers have so far tested the experimental vaccine in mice. The vaccine uses mRNA technology to target pneumonic plague, a severe form of plague caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis.
The project remains at the experimental stage, and the vaccine has not yet been approved for use in humans.
Reports have described Israel as the only country currently developing an mRNA vaccine specifically against pneumonic plague. However, there is no firm confirmation that no other research teams worldwide are working on similar vaccines.
For now, the Israeli project remains an early-stage attempt to determine whether mRNA technology can protect against pneumonic plague.
