Islamabad’s H-9 and G-6 Weekly Markets Closed Over Fire Safety Concerns

The H-9 and G-6 weekly markets in the federal capital will remain closed from October 16 until required fire safety measures are fully implemented, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

The Directorate of Municipal Administration issued an official notification regarding the closure with the approval of the Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI).

According to the notification, obtaining fire safety clearance from Capital Emergency Services, operating under the Capital Development Authority (CDA), has been made mandatory for reopening the markets.

Both markets will remain closed until all fire safety measures are implemented and clearance is obtained.

A few days ago, on Wednesday, a fire broke out at Islamabad’s H-9 weekly bazaar, reportedly during welding work as stallholders were installing shutter gates. However, the exact cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed.

The blaze destroyed 133 of the market’s 2,800 stalls. Authorities plan to make the H-9 Sunday Bazaar fire station operational within a week and address safety concerns involving electricity and backup power systems.
