The Islamabad Police have sought Rs. 1 billion from the Ministry of Interior to cover expenses related to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) long marches and sit-ins in Islamabad, sources in the federal administration told ProPakistani.
The requested amount will cover the rental of more than 1,200 containers, accommodation for deployed police personnel and officers, and meals for more than 29,000 personnel, sources said.
Part of the funds will also be used to purchase sandbags, new tear gas guns, tear gas shells, and petrol.
Security arrangements have been stepped up in Islamabad ahead of the protests. More than 1,000 containers have already been brought into the capital, while additional security personnel are being deployed for the upcoming demonstrations.
PTI has announced a long march and sit-in in Islamabad for September 27, while Jamaat-e-Islami had also launched a march toward the capital against petroleum levy and fuel prices.
