Imported Almonds Become More Expensive Ahead of Winters
Imported shelled and soft-shell almonds could become more expensive ahead of winter after the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) increased their customs values under a new valuation ruling.
The customs value of shelled almonds has risen from $3.00 to $3.81 per kilogram, an increase of 27 percent. Soft-shell almonds will now be assessed at $2.19 per kilogram, up from $2.14.
However, the customs value of hard-shell almonds has been reduced from $1.95 to $1.41 per kilogram.
These figures are used to assess import duties and taxes, rather than set retail prices. The higher valuations could increase import costs for shelled and soft-shell almonds, although their impact on consumer prices remains uncertain.
The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi issued Valuation Ruling No. 2111/2026 following a fresh assessment of import data, domestic market prices, and international prices.
The exercise also included a market survey and consultations with trade representatives at a meeting on September 25.
Under the ruling, value-added almonds, including roasted and salted varieties, will be assessed at customs values 15 percent above the relevant rates.
The revised values cover imports from all countries. The ruling applies across Pakistan, with an exception for specified imports cleared through land border stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
