Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Captain (Retd) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry on Tuesday assured the All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association that owners will be paid rent for containers used to maintain law and order.
Containers carrying medicines, food items, and other perishable goods will be returned to their owners immediately.
The police also agreed to return containers being used to maintain public order. The owners will be paid rent for the period their containers were used for this purpose.
Officials from the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance attended the meeting, along with Deputy Inspector General Headquarters Jawad Tariq.
The decision comes after transporters raised concerns over the seizure of commercial vehicles in Islamabad and other areas.
ProPakistani was informed earlier that vehicle seizures have caused losses of Rs. 50-80 crore. An advocate for the transporters’ union warned that damage to cargo and canceled shipments could push losses into billions of rupees.
