How to Update Your Marital Status in NADRA Records After Marriage

NADRA has explained how married citizens can update their marital status in official records using a computerized marriage certificate and the Pak ID mobile app.

According to NADRA, citizens must first obtain a computerized marriage certificate from the relevant Union Council, Cantonment Board, or Municipal Committee. The certificate provides a Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) number, which is required to process the marital status update.

After obtaining the certificate, applicants can update their marital status either by visiting a nearby NADRA Registration Centre or by using the Pak ID mobile application.

The process links the marriage record registered with the relevant local authority to NADRA’s database. The CRMS system records major civil events, including births, marriages, divorces, and deaths, through authorized local government bodies across Pakistan.

Get a Computerized Marriage Certificate

The first step is to make sure the marriage has been officially registered with the relevant local authority.

Applicants should obtain a computerized marriage certificate from their Union Council, Cantonment Board, Municipal Committee, or other competent registration authority, depending on where the marriage was registered.

Citizens should ensure that the details on the certificate are correct before using it for the NADRA update.

Keep Your CRMS Number Ready

The computerized marriage certificate includes information linked with the Civil Registration Management System (CRMS).

Applicants should keep the relevant CRMS number available when updating their marital status.

NADRA’s CRMS infrastructure is used by local authorities to register vital events, including births, deaths, marriages, and divorces. NADRA says the system is deployed across more than 11,000 Union Councils and supports the issuance of civil registration certificates.

How to Update Marital Status Through the Pak ID App

Citizens who want to complete the process online can use NADRA’s Pak ID mobile application.

Applicants should download the official Pak ID app, create an account or sign in to an existing account, and select the relevant CNIC modification or non-printable information update service.

They can then enter the required information and provide the supporting documents requested by the application.

NADRA confirms that Pak ID supports CNIC modification and updates to non-printable fields. The platform also allows applicants to upload documents, pay applicable fees online, and track their applications.

Applicants should follow the instructions shown in the app, as additional verification may be required depending on the individual case.

How to Update Marital Status at a NADRA Registration Centre

Citizens who prefer an in-person process can visit their nearest NADRA Registration Centre.

They should take their computerized marriage certificate and other required identity documents with them and request an update to their marital status.

NADRA may ask applicants to complete identity or biometric verification as part of the process.

Citizens should make sure their marriage information matches the details already registered with the relevant local authority.

What If the Marriage Record Is Not Updated?

Applicants should first confirm that their marriage has been properly registered with the concerned local authority.

NADRA’s registration ecosystem relies on civil registration information generated through provincial and local government systems. Its policy framework also provides for marriage registration data to be linked with NADRA records to improve verification and accuracy.

If the marriage record or CRMS information contains an error, applicants may need to have the issue corrected by the authority that registered the marriage before completing the NADRA update.
