The Inter City Hotel Association said hotels in Rawalpindi will not close under any circumstances, urging the police and district administration to fulfil their responsibilities instead.
Association President Sheikh Abdul Waheed said the hotel industry has no link with any political party, protest or political activity. He said hotels exist only to provide accommodation, food and other services to visitors arriving in Rawalpindi from other cities.
He questioned why hotels, guesthouses and business centres in protest areas are not shut down if closures are being considered from September 19. He said traders in Rawalpindi should not continue to bear the burden of business losses.
Waheed said the association is ready to cooperate fully with the government, police, district administration and law enforcement agencies. He added that if any individual from a political party poses a legal or security concern, the association will support lawful action, including refusing them a hotel room.
However, he made it clear that the industry will not agree to a shutdown.
He said hotel closure is not a solution and added that all member hotels have the Hotel Eye system installed, which is connected to the Punjab IG, Special Branch, and Rawalpindi Police Command and Control.
