Here’s How Many Employees Each Company Fired in 2026 Due to AI

More than 135,000 technology workers have been affected by layoffs worldwide in 2026, as major companies including Amazon, Oracle, Meta, and Microsoft reduce their workforces amid rising costs and growing investment in artificial intelligence.

According to industry layoff trackers, approximately 135,000 technology jobs have been cut across more than 330 companies so far this year.

The job cuts extend beyond the technology sector, with major employers in logistics, banking, manufacturing, advertising, and retail also announcing workforce reductions.

Major Layoffs in 2026

UPS announced plans to eliminate up to 30,000 operational positions during 2026 as part of its restructuring. However, the company expects to achieve most of these reductions through voluntary buyouts and by not replacing departing employees.

Oracle has also significantly reduced its workforce, with approximately 21,000 fewer employees reported during its fiscal year ending May 2026. Broader estimates have suggested that its restructuring could affect as many as 30,000 positions.

Amazon announced plans to eliminate approximately 16,000 corporate jobs in January, while Meta and Microsoft also introduced major workforce reductions.

Other companies, including Omnicom, Dow Chemical, Cisco, American Express, and Uber, have announced or reportedly considered thousands of job cuts.

The following table summarizes the reported reductions.

Company Reported Job Reductions
UPS Up to 30,000
Oracle Up to 30,000 estimated
Amazon 16,000
Omnicom Around 15,000
Meta Around 8,000
Microsoft 4,800
Dow Chemical 4,500
Cisco Fewer than 4,000
American Express 3,840
Uber 3,300
Renault Up to 2,400
Nike 1,400
General Motors 1,300
Disney 1,000
Citigroup 1,000

The figures include announced layoffs, planned reductions, workforce declines, and industry estimates. They do not all represent completed layoffs during 2026.

AI and Rising Costs Drive Restructuring

Artificial intelligence has become an important factor in corporate restructuring, with businesses increasingly adopting automation to reduce operating expenses and improve efficiency.

Technology companies, including Oracle, Meta, and Microsoft, are also investing heavily in AI infrastructure while reviewing their staffing requirements.

However, AI is not the only reason behind the layoffs. Companies are also responding to rising operating costs, weaker demand, restructuring expenses, and pressure to improve profitability.

For example, UPS is reducing its workforce as it handles fewer Amazon deliveries, while Omnicom’s restructuring follows its acquisition of Interpublic Group.

Tech Layoffs Continue to Rise

According to Layoffs.fyi, approximately 135,000 technology workers have been laid off in 2026, surpassing the roughly 122,600 job cuts recorded throughout 2025.

Meanwhile, outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported that US technology companies announced approximately 165,925 job cuts between January and September 2026, an increase of 54% compared with the same period last year.

The figures differ because the organizations use different tracking methods and cover different groups of employers.

The continued layoffs highlight how companies are adjusting their workforces as AI adoption increases and businesses seek to reduce costs.
