Govt to Cancel Allotment Letters of Thousands of Employees Over Unpaid Rent

Thousands of employees residing in government residences across the country have been found in default on rent payments.

According to a private TV report, available documents show that a total of 7,973 federal employees using government houses in various cities have been identified as rent defaulters.

Karachi stands out in the city-wise figures, where 5,317 employees have not paid rent for government residences. This accounts for 74.26 percent of total defaulters, placing Karachi at the top.

In other cities, 2,169 federal employees in Islamabad failed to pay their rent dues, while Lahore reported 404 such employees, Peshawar 57 and Quetta 26.

According to sources, the Estate Office has decided to take strict measures to recover the dues, and notices have been issued to the employees who have not paid their rent.

Under the authorities’ decision, if defaulters fail to pay rent for government residences, their house allotments will be cancelled. This move is aimed at advancing the recovery of outstanding rents for government houses.
