Newly enrolled students in government schools have yet to receive free textbooks after the summer holidays, leaving parents concerned. The delays are also affecting the school enrolment campaign.
The Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU) has requested details of available textbooks from all warehouses. The Education Department has directed officials to submit the data within two days.
According to the department, additional sets of free textbooks are available at different warehouses. Officials said they would collect these books and distribute them to schools.
The department said it had already instructed school heads to submit their textbook requirements based on student enrolment.
It added that the relevant school heads would be responsible for any failure to provide students with free textbooks.
