Govt Announces New Price for 2026 Tobacco Crop

The federal government has approved a minimum price of Rs. 525 per kilogram for the 2026 tobacco crop, sources told ProPakistani.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the country’s main tobacco-producing region, particularly for flue-cured Virginia tobacco, which is primarily used in cigarette manufacturing.

Major growing districts include Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Buner, and Mansehra. The Pakistan Tobacco Board estimates that the sector supports nearly 80,000 tobacco farmers nationwide, with more than 45,000 based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Tobacco is also grown in Punjab and other provinces, with different varieties serving different markets. Besides cigarette manufacturing, tobacco varieties are used in products such as naswar, snuff, and hookah tobacco.

The Pakistan Tobacco Board oversees price fixation, production cost surveys, market forecasts, and purchasing arrangements between growers and tobacco companies.
