Former Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait is set to return to Pakistan’s coaching setup after reaching an agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to work as a bowling consultant.
The PCB is expected to formally announce the appointment soon, while Tait is likely to arrive in Pakistan early next week to begin his duties.
The 43-year-old is already familiar with Pakistan’s pace-bowling setup, having previously served as the national team’s full-time bowling coach.
Shaun Tait took charge ahead of Australia’s historic tour of Pakistan in March 2022 and remained in the role until the end of Pakistan’s home series against New Zealand in January 2023.
He had initially signed a one-year contract with the PCB, but the agreement was not renewed following organizational changes within the board.
Shaun Tait most recently worked with Bangladesh’s fast-bowling unit before stepping down earlier this year.
During his time with Bangladesh, he expressed concerns over the demands of working as a permanent bowling coach across all three formats. With Tait preferring a consultancy role, the PCB approached him for the bowling consultant position.
While leaving his role with Bangladesh, Tait said: “The full-time role of year-round red and white-ball cricket, my 12 months was enough and it’s time to just step back and give my family a little bit more time.”
Shaun Tait is expected to meet PCB officials after arriving in Pakistan to complete the remaining contractual formalities before formally taking charge of the national team’s pace-bowling responsibilities.
His expected appointment comes ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, which includes T20Is and Tests, along with an ODI tri-series featuring England as the third team.
The PCB is looking to strengthen Pakistan’s fast-bowling setup ahead of the upcoming international assignments.
Shaun Tait represented Australia in three Tests, 35 ODIs, and 21 T20Is during his international career.
