FBR Extends 2026 Tax Return Deadline Again

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced an extension for the filing of income tax returns for the tax year 2026, moving the deadline from October 15 to October 31, 2026.

According to the regulator’s latest notification, FBR said the date for filing tax returns has been extended up to 31 October 2026 in the case of persons who were required to file their returns by 30 September 2026 and whose date of filing had earlier been extended up to 15 October 2026.

“This extension is being granted in view of the requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations,” the regulator added.

This is the 2nd time this year that the return filing deadline has been extended following requests from various trade bodies and the tax bar associations.

6.9 million tax returns have been filed so far.

This year’s filing season was marred by slowdowns, glitches, bugs and problems while submitting returns. The IRIS portal had earlier failed to properly accept returns for many individuals.
