Event Organizer Steals Mobiles of 50 Women From Farmhouse in Karachi
An event organizer allegedly fled with the mobile phones of more than 50 women at a farmhouse in Karachi’s Gadap area after collecting the devices on the pretext of preventing them from making videos.
According to police, the organizer, identified as Salman, told the women that filming was not allowed at the farmhouse and collected their mobile phones. He allegedly later fled the premises with the devices.
The women had arrived at the farmhouse in two buses after being told they were being called for a job. One of the affected women told police that they were promised food, Rs. 2,000, and training to set up stalls at an event.
They were reportedly told they would be taken to a private housing society but were instead brought to the farmhouse, where they were informed that their boss would hold a meeting.
The woman said their phones were collected and receipts were issued. They realized later in the evening that the phones had allegedly been stolen.
According to her statement, Salman fled on a motorcycle with another man while carrying the phones in a bag.
Police have taken the farmhouse manager into custody and recorded his statement. The affected women also reached Gadap Police Station.
The farmhouse administration told police that it had been informed that a corporate event was being organized and said it was unaware that the phones would be taken. It also said it had not received payment for the event.
The administration confirmed that Salman had collected the phones before fleeing the premises.
