England Name Squad for ODI Tri-Series Against Pakistan and Sri Lanka
England have named a 16-member squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with Adil Rashid and Sam Curran returning to the side while Jofra Archer has been rested.
Harry Brook will captain the squad, which also includes three uncapped players in Mason Crane, James Coles and Henry Crocombe.
Rashid returns after recovering from a hand injury that ruled him out of England’s recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, while Curran is back following groin surgery in August.
Archer has been rested as England manages his workload after a busy summer across formats and his participation in The Hundred.
England will also be without Jos Buttler, who has been ruled out of the tour with a hamstring injury sustained against Sri Lanka last month.
National selector Marcus North said the tri-series would provide England with another opportunity to test its ODI squad against strong opposition in different conditions.
Crane returns to the England setup eight years after his last international appearance, which came in the final Test of the 2017-18 Ashes series. North also praised the leg-spinner’s consistent performances for Glamorgan across formats.
Sussex duo Coles and Crocombe could make their ODI debuts after previously being included in England’s white-ball squads earlier this summer.
Brendon McCullum will oversee a rotated coaching staff for the tour, with Jeetan Patel, Mike Yardy, David Saker and Carl Hopkinson assisting him.
Kevin Pietersen will not be part of the setup in Pakistan. He was appointed last month as a specialist mentor for England’s white-ball teams and began the role during the recent series against Sri Lanka. He is expected to return during England’s tour of Australia in November.
The ODI tri-series will be played from October 18 to 31 in Rawalpindi and Lahore, with each team facing the other two twice before the top two sides meet in the final.
Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the opening match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 18 before taking on England at the same venue on October 20. Sri Lanka will face England in Rawalpindi on October 22.
The tournament will then move to Lahore, where Pakistan will face England on October 25 and Sri Lanka on October 27. England and Sri Lanka will meet on October 29, while the final will be played at Gaddafi Stadium on October 31.
The tournament will be Pakistan’s second ODI tri-series in as many years after hosting New Zealand and South Africa in February 2025 ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
