Rawalpindi has reported another dengue case, taking the total number of infections in the garrison city to seven during the current season.
The latest patient, a resident of Dhama Syedan, was brought to Holy Family Hospital and admitted to the dengue ward. Earlier, another case was reported from Asghar Mall Scheme on September 9.
District Health Officer Preventive Dr. Jawad Zahid said two dengue cases have been reported in September, while four were detected in July and one in March.
Despite the latest case, he said the dengue situation remains under control. Rawalpindi reported 582 dengue cases last year, compared with only seven so far this year.
Authorities have intensified anti-dengue operations across the city, deploying 1,400 teams for indoor and outdoor surveillance.
According to Dr. Zahid, the highest presence of dengue larvae has been recorded in Misrial Road, Afshan Colony, and Allama Iqbal Colony in Rawalpindi Cantonment.
Other areas with significant larvae detection include Naseerabad, Morgah, Dhama Syedan, Pirwadhai, Dhamyal, Hazara Colony, Pindora, Dhoke Mangtal, Dhoke Ratta, and Chak Jalaldin.
During the ongoing campaign, dengue larvae have been detected and destroyed at more than 145,572 locations in homes and open spaces.
Authorities have also taken action against violations of dengue standard operating procedures. A total of 2,543 FIRs have been registered, 652 buildings sealed, and 2,119 challans issued. Violators have also been fined Rs. 2.568 million.
The number of field workers has been increased as part of efforts to control dengue. Dr. Zahid said identifying and destroying more breeding sites would help reduce the threat of the disease.
Residents have been advised to keep their homes and rooftops clean and prevent stagnant water from accumulating to stop mosquito breeding.
