Deadline Announced for Private School Registration in Rawalpindi

The District Registration Authority of schools on Friday asked private educational institutions in Rawalpindi to get themselves registered within a week, failing which unregistered premises will be sealed.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the District Registration Authority, Rawalpindi, held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Social Services) Fazail Mudassar.

The meeting addressed the registration of unregistered private educational institutions, compliance with legal requirements, and safety audits of educational facilities.

Unregistered institutions will be granted a one-week window to submit the necessary documentation and fulfil all legal requirements, with enforcement action, including sealing of premises, for those failing to complete the process.

During the meeting, registration applications for 35 newly established private educational institutions were presented for approval. One application was rejected due to incomplete documentation, while the registration of the remaining 34 institutions was made conditional upon the submission of IT and Science Lab certificates.

The meeting also authorised the imposition of fines on educational institutions that violated government directives during the summer vacation period.

It was further decided that a third-party evaluation would be conducted to assess the structural integrity of private educational institution buildings, for which a committee has been constituted under the supervision of the ADC (Social Services).

District Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Yasin Khan Baloch said the education authority was surveying 7,000 private schools and 1,300 government-run schools in the district for safety measures and dangerous buildings.

The survey of 5,000 schools had been completed, and 300 private schools and 143 government-run schools had been asked to complete safety measures within a week.

During the proceedings, Javed Khan, a member of the District Registration Authority, expressed concern over notices by certain Tehsil Municipal Administration officials demanding the commercialisation of building premises while safety audits were under way, urging the ADC to direct officials to halt such actions.
