Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain has said traffic incidents on the Baltistan Road pose a serious risk to human lives and called for road safety measures from the National Highway Authority and Frontier Works Organization.
Speaking at a meeting on ways to prevent traffic accidents and landslide-related incidents on the Baltistan Road, now officially called the Baltistan Highway, he stressed the importance of the route.
He said travelers and tourists face difficulties because of frequent landslides along the road.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to ensure safe travel on this vital highway. The NHA and FWO must implement safety measures on an emergency basis,” he said.
The chief minister also said the region offers major investment opportunities in tourism and power.
Meanwhile, Special Investment Facilitation Council Secretary Jameel Ahmed Qureshi met CM Hussain and briefed him on efforts to attract international investors to the energy, tourism and other important sectors.
