Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has started a major hiring drive, seeking more than 8,000 workers at its manufacturing operations in Xi’an as production ramps up following factory upgrades.
Several local agencies, including the Xi’an Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, have posted recruitment notices for BYD’s plants.
The company is offering signing bonuses of up to 6,000 yuan ($889), while monthly salaries for some positions can reach 10,000 yuan.
The vacancies include general factory workers as well as skilled positions in welding, painting and final assembly.
BYD’s four Xi’an production sites have resumed normal operations after upgrades, including a transition to its second-generation Blade Battery.
Production had been constrained during the first half of 2026, with some workers transferred to other expanding facilities.
The hiring drive comes as export demand rises. BYD sold a record 440,293 new energy vehicles in August, including 189,466 overseas units. Reuters reported that the recruitment is aimed at supporting the production ramp-up.
