Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the Green Electric Bus service in Multan, arriving at the launch ceremony on an electric bus herself.
The service has started with 60 buses, with the chief minister saying students, women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities will be able to travel free of charge. She also said electric bus services are being expanded across Punjab, including routes reaching Bariyan in Murree.
Maryam Nawaz said a high-tech cancer hospital had also been inaugurated in Multan, offering free treatment, while a modern machine capable of treating cancer without surgery within minutes had been provided.
Speaking about law and order, she said her government had taken action against gangsters despite threats of legal cases and would continue taking measures to protect people, their property, businesses and families.
She also criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over recent political activities in Punjab, saying an attempted attack had failed.
Responding to criticism over her use of the Punjab chief minister’s jet, Maryam Nawaz said the aircraft, valued at Rs. 9 billion, belonged to the provincial government rather than her personally. She questioned whether the chief minister should travel to Multan by rickshaw instead.
