All Pakistan Goods Transporters Announce Nationwide Strike
The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has announced a wheel-jam strike from October 10 if its demands are not accepted.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the association chaired by President Nabeel Mahmood Tariq.
Senior Vice President Haji Irfan Sultan, Vice President Mumtaz Ali Khan, Mirza Arshad Iqbal and other office-bearers also attended the meeting.
Participants demanded relief for transporters under a charter of demands.
They also called for the immediate release of containers seized during protests and sit-ins, along with compensation of Rs20,000 and Rs35,000.
The meeting demanded an end to the practice of stopping vehicles and imposing fines over sales tax invoices.
Transporters also demanded a reduction in diesel prices.
They said promises made by the federal and provincial governments during the strike had not been fulfilled.
The goods transporters warned that if relief is not provided, business will be completely shut down from October 10.
