1,184 Lawyers Have Fake LLB Degrees
Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, has cancelled the academic records of 1,184 LLB candidates, declaring their results, transcripts, and degrees invalid after an inquiry found the records had been added to the university’s system without lawful authority.
The cancelled records include 658 candidates from the three-year LLB programme and 526 from the five-year LLB programme, according to a university notification dated October 16, 2026.
Inquiry Covered 2016 to 2018 Batches
The action follows resolutions passed by the university’s Syndicate at its 92nd meeting on April 11, 2026. An inquiry committee then examined the examination records of the three-year LLB programme for the passing years 2016, 2017, and 2018, and the five-year LLB programme for the 2017 batch.
The committee checked the university’s official records along with those of the affiliated law colleges. It identified a number of academic records that it suspected had been entered into the university’s examination records without lawful authority.
Candidates Were Given a Chance to Respond
In July, the university issued a final public notice on its website and in the national press. It asked the affected candidates to submit documents proving the legitimacy of their records within 15 days.
After reviewing the applications and the evidence provided by the candidates and the affiliated colleges, the committee concluded that the disputed records were not part of the university’s lawful academic record.
All Related Documents Declared Void
The notification states that any examination result, transcript, provisional certificate, degree certificate, or other academic document obtained on the basis of these records is “invalid, void ab initio,” and will not be recognized as a document lawfully issued by the university.
A list attached to the notification names the affected candidates and their affiliated colleges, including law colleges in Jacobabad, Kandhkot, and Kashmore.
Copies of the notification have been sent to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Pakistan Bar Council, and the Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan bar councils. The principals of the affiliated law colleges have also been informed.
According to media reports, this is not the first such action by the university, which cancelled 1,280 LLB degrees last year. Fake degrees have been a recurring problem in Pakistan, with the FIA registering a case against 58 CDA employees over fake degrees last year, while the HEC was earlier directed to review university degrees across the country.
