At least 10 local climbers and guides are missing after an avalanche hit the base camp of Himlung Peak in Nepal’s Himalayas on Sunday morning, an expedition organiser said.
The 7,126-metre Himlung Peak, near the border with Tibet, had received several days of heavy snowfall before the avalanche.
Bibhuti Chand Thakur of Himalaya Holidays Trekking told AFP that two helicopters and a search and rescue team were on standby but could not move because of bad weather.
He said eight members of one expedition team and two others from another company were reported missing. All of those missing are Nepali.
