Punjab Police have requested the closure of 48 educational institutions in Rawalpindi to accommodate more than 15,000 police personnel being deployed for security duties.
The additional force, drawn from different districts across Punjab, is expected to reach Rawalpindi on Monday evening in the first phase of the deployment. Further contingents may also arrive as part of the security arrangements.
Police personnel will be accommodated in educational institutions across Rawalpindi district. The identified locations include 21 institutions in Rawalpindi city, 10 in Taxila, five in Gujar Khan, three in Kallar Syedan, and six near the Chakri Interchange.
Punjab Police have formally approached the district administration regarding the closure of the institutions. A decision on suspending teaching activities and declaring holidays at the affected schools is expected soon.
The deployment could remain in place until October 1 as authorities strengthen security arrangements in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
