Dow University Fires 27 Employees Over Fake Degrees

Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has dismissed 27 employees after their educational credentials were found to be fake, the Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was informed.

During a meeting chaired by Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, university officials revealed that the degrees of around 1,945 employees had been verified out of a total workforce of 5,350, while verification of another 3,400 employees was still pending with the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The committee reviewed the university’s audit findings for 2024 and 2025, which highlighted the administration’s failure to verify employees’ academic credentials and respond to related audit queries.

The university’s finance director informed the committee that the degree verification process had been outsourced to a company at a cost of Rs. 7.36 million.

Vice-Chancellor Nazli Hussain said that more than 70% of academic doctors’ degrees had been verified, while another 25% were still being processed.

Taking notice of the findings, Khuhro directed the university administration to recover all salaries paid to the 27 employees hired on the basis of fake degrees. He also sought reports from all public universities regarding the verification of academic qualifications of their teaching and administrative staff.

The meeting was attended by PAC members Qasim Siraj Soomro and Makhdoom Fakhar Zaman, the vice-chancellor, and other university officials.
