CM Punjab Orders Action Over Poor Class 9 Results

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed concern over the Class 9 examination results and ordered action against teachers linked to poor performance, while also deciding to introduce a new ordinance, according to 24NewsHD TV channel.

The decisions were taken during a video-link meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Thursday, where she was briefed on school education matters.

The meeting agreed in principle to link students’ examination results with teachers’ performance. The chief minister also ordered immediate action where the Class 9 result is below 20 percent.

Maryam Nawaz approved in principle the introduction of monthly and annual examinations in every class and directed officials to present a complete timeline and reform plan next week.

She also ordered that schools with the best results be rewarded. Schools that top the results in each district will also receive awards.

The meeting decided to launch evening coaching for academically weak students in government schools and agreed to discourage the practice of removing weak students from schools.

Maryam Nawaz ordered that vacant head teacher posts be filled within 45 days and directed authorities to ensure the appointment of subject specialists in government schools. She also instructed the education minister to strengthen checking and monitoring at every level.

The chief minister expressed satisfaction over the results of Government Girls High School Bhoun in Jhang and sought district-wise monthly rating data of schools.

The meeting also decided to introduce a “Unified Monitoring App” for school monitoring.

A pilot project of “Library on Wheels” will be launched in Lahore. The three-wheeler mobile library will carry more than 20,000 digital books and will also offer video learning lectures.

Maryam Nawaz also sought a performance report of outsourced schools.

She said point-scoring in government schools would not solve the problem and stressed that real improvement was needed. According to her, teachers’ hard work should be reflected in students’ results.
