CDF Asim Munir to Visit Tehran Today
Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is scheduled to visit Tehran on Tuesday, according to a Pakistani official and Iranian media reports.
The visit follows talks between Munir and Iranian leaders earlier in the summer, which focused on preventing further escalation and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistan’s role in the Iran conflict has expanded beyond bilateral diplomacy, with Field Marshal Asim Munir emerging as a key channel for communication between Tehran and Washington.
During his previous visit to Tehran in August, Munir met senior Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, as Islamabad sought to revive stalled negotiations.
The visit comes a day after Pakistan suspended commercial trade through the Taftan and Gabd-Rimdan border crossings with Iran, citing security and border-management concerns. The move has stranded freight vehicles and raised concerns among traders, although Pakistani and Iranian officials have described the disruption as temporary.
