Canada Deports Meera
Pakistani actress Meera was deported back to the United States after Canadian immigration officials denied her entry following hours of questioning at the Niagara border.
Meera was travelling from New York to Canada to attend a show when immigration authorities stopped her and questioned her for several hours before sending her back to the US.
Meera said she didn’t understand why they denied her entry. She also suspected that someone might have filed a complaint against her.
UK Ban
Meera earlier faced similar immigration difficulties in the United Kingdom, where authorities previously refused her entry and imposed a 10-year ban.
Her mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari, had attributed the earlier incident to a misunderstanding during an immigration interview, claiming that Meera struggled to understand the questions asked in English.
Although the UK entry ban later expired, Meera continued to face difficulties securing a British visa. A subsequent application was rejected after her travel agent allegedly submitted incorrect information.
In July 2025, Meera appealed to the British government for a visa to visit her sister, who was receiving cancer treatment in London. She said the immigration dispute had kept her away from her family for several years.
Meera holds a US Green Card and has travelled to the country for personal and professional engagements. She had also previously visited Calgary to promote a film and perform on stage.
