BYD is discussing the introduction of its next-generation ultra-fast EV charging technology in Pakistan with Mega Motor Company, although deployment will depend on local infrastructure and future vehicle plans.
BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang said the company is evaluating the technology for Pakistan as part of its broader expansion in the country.
Charging Could Reach 1,500kW
BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery works with its new FLASH Charging system, which can deliver up to 1,500kW through a single connector.
According to BYD, compatible vehicles can charge from:
- 10% to 70% in five minutes
- 10% to 97% in nine minutes
- 20% to 97% in 12 minutes at -30°C
These figures apply to BYD’s new battery and charging platform and should not be treated as charging times for every BYD vehicle currently available in Pakistan.
Pakistan Needs Supporting Infrastructure
Liu said any local rollout would depend on infrastructure readiness, stakeholder discussions and BYD’s future product plans.
Existing BYD vehicles would remain compatible with future charging infrastructure, although they would not necessarily support the maximum charging speeds.
The fastest rates would require vehicles designed around BYD’s newer battery platform.
A higher-powered charger also does not automatically make every EV charge faster. Actual charging speed depends on the vehicle’s battery capacity, architecture and maximum supported charging rate.
Local BYD Assembly Plant Also Nearing Launch
BYD is also moving closer to starting local vehicle assembly in Pakistan.
Liu said the company’s local assembly facility is targeted to begin operations in the second half of 2026.
The plant is designed to produce around 25,000 vehicles per year, with the ability to expand capacity to 50,000 units annually.
The charging network discussions could support BYD’s wider local expansion as it introduces more electric and electrified vehicles to the Pakistani market.
However, BYD has not yet announced a confirmed launch date for either the ultra-fast charging network or local vehicle production.
