Australia’s Star All-Rounder Retires From International Cricket
Australia’s World Cup-winning all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has reportedly retired from international cricket with immediate effect, bringing an end to a career spanning more than 14 years.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Australia’s final match against Oman at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year marked the 38-year-old’s last international appearance.
Maxwell had already retired from ODI cricket in June 2025. Although he had not formally announced his retirement from Test cricket, a comeback remained unlikely, with his last appearance in the format coming in 2017.
The all-rounder made his international debut in August 2012 and represented Australia in seven Tests, 149 ODIs and 130 T20Is. He scored 7,226 runs across formats, including 10 centuries and 35 half-centuries, while also claiming 136 wickets.
Maxwell played a key role in Australia’s success at major ICC tournaments, winning the ODI World Cup in 2015 and 2023 and the T20 World Cup in 2021.
One of his most memorable performances came against Afghanistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup in Mumbai, when Australia were reduced to 91/7 while chasing 292 in a must-win encounter.
Despite struggling with severe cramps in the scorching heat, Maxwell produced an unbeaten 201 off 128 deliveries, including 21 fours and two sixes, to guide Australia to a remarkable three-wicket victory.
The innings helped Australia avoid a major upset and remain in contention for the title, which they eventually secured.
