Apple Finally Launches Its First Touchscreen MacBook Pro
Apple has announced new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring OLED displays and touchscreen support for the first time.
The new laptops will be sold alongside the existing MacBook Pro lineup. They also introduce Dynamic Island, a lighter design, improved speakers, and the return of the glowing Apple logo.
Both models use Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, with prices starting at $2,899.
New OLED Display and Touchscreen
The biggest upgrade is Apple’s new PROLED XDR display, which uses Tandem OLED technology previously introduced on the iPad Pro.
This technology combines two OLED layers to improve brightness and image quality.
The displays support up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness and 1,000 nits of sustained brightness, along with a variable refresh rate ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz.
They also support P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, making them suitable for photography, video editing, and design work.
For the first time, MacBook users can interact directly with the screen through touch.
Users can scroll through pages, zoom into photos, and interact with supported applications without relying entirely on the trackpad or mouse.
However, Apple has not redesigned macOS completely around touch controls. The feature works alongside the keyboard and trackpad.
Apple has also not announced support for the Apple Pencil.
Dynamic Island and New Design
Apple has replaced the traditional display notch with Dynamic Island, similar to the feature found on iPhones.
It provides access to notifications, ongoing activities, and other information.
However, the new MacBook Pro models still lack Face ID. Users will continue to rely on Touch ID for fingerprint authentication.
The laptops are also slightly smaller and lighter than the existing models.
Depending on the model, weight has been reduced by approximately 200g to 300g.
Apple has also redesigned the internal cooling system to direct warm air away from the display.
Another noticeable change is the return of the illuminated Apple logo on the back of the screen, a feature previously available on older MacBooks.
Hardware and Audio
The new MacBook Pro models retain the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in the existing lineup.
Memory, storage, connectivity, and battery performance remain largely similar, meaning the biggest differences are the new display and design.
Apple has also improved the six-speaker audio system.
The updated speakers include redesigned woofers that deliver 50% deeper bass, along with new tweeters.
The speaker system has also been adjusted to maintain sound quality when the laptop’s lid is closed.
Battery life remains rated at up to 24 hours.

Apple is offering the new OLED MacBook Pro in four main configurations.
