Students receive financial support through a combination of university scholarships, external research awards, teaching assistantships, research assistantships and graduate academic assistantships. Individual funding arrangements depend on available awards, departmental opportunities and research activities.

UBC introduced the CAD 40,000 minimum funding threshold in September 2026. The policy applies to both domestic and international doctoral students, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

UBC charges tuition fees for its Anthropology PhD program. According to the university’s published fee schedule, annual tuition is approximately CAD 10,081.65 for international students and CAD 5,738.52 for domestic students.

Eligible international students can receive an International Tuition Award worth up to CAD 3,200 annually. UBC automatically considers qualifying students enrolled in eligible research-based graduate programs for this assistance.
