Agriculture Financing Crosses Rs. 1.3 Trillion
Pakistan’s outstanding agriculture financing has reached Rs. 1.329 trillion, covering approximately 3.5 million borrowers, according to the Finance Division.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed the latest figures at the sixth meeting of the Access to Finance Steering Committee in Islamabad on October 28, where he called for faster disbursements and greater efforts to expand financing for farmers and small businesses.
Under the government’s Zarkhez-e: Asaan Zarai Qarza Scheme, authorities had approved 20,176 loan applications worth Rs. 8.674 billion. Of these, 6,132 collateral-free loans worth around Rs. 2.34 billion had been disbursed to smallholder farmers.
The committee also discussed ways to expand financing for livestock and dairy businesses and increase private-sector participation across agricultural supply chains.
Aurangzeb urged relevant institutions to accelerate agriculture and small and medium enterprise (SME) financing, saying access to credit should translate into tangible benefits for farmers, businesses and underserved communities.
