The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has warned that the ongoing nationwide transporters’ strike is severely disrupting textile exports, delaying shipments and threatening Pakistan’s reputation as a reliable global supplier.
In a statement issued on Saturday, APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad said the prolonged suspension of freight movement has significantly affected the textile and apparel sector. He said exporters are facing delays in meeting international delivery schedules, while mills are also struggling with shortages of raw materials and fuel due to disruptions in road transport.
Arshad said the textile sector, already under pressure from high energy costs, liquidity constraints and intense global competition, cannot absorb further disruption in supply chains.
APTMA said textiles account for more than 60 percent of Pakistan’s total exports, making the sector critical for foreign exchange earnings, industrial production and employment.
The association urged the federal government and all stakeholders to engage with transporters and resolve the dispute through dialogue. It also called on the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, port authorities and shipping lines to facilitate immediate clearance of export cargo until normal transport operations resume.
APTMA said restoring the supply chain without delay is essential to safeguard exports, economic activity and jobs.
