The government has finalized key decisions after two days of negotiations with the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance in Islamabad, including the establishment of weigh stations on all motorways.
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan chaired the final session as convener of the committee formed by the prime minister. The meeting also decided to set up a joint monitoring committee comprising customs authorities and goods transporters.
Officials discussed short- and long-term steps to address the problems transporters face in dealing with customs authorities.
Abdul Aleem Khan directed officials to resolve transporters’ complaints about weigh stations without delay. He said modern weigh stations with minimal human intervention would be installed on all motorways.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwaar, who joined the meeting through video link, assured full cooperation from his ministry on maritime-related issues.
Senior officials from the Federal Board of Revenue, port authorities, Karachi Port Trust, National Highway Authority and Motorway Police also briefed the meeting on related matters.
Transporters welcomed the discussions and supported Abdul Aleem Khan’s stance on axle-load regulation, saying the issue should be controlled through a uniform policy at the source.
