Punjab Police have registered 9,272 cases under the Kite Flying Act across the province during the first seven months of the year as authorities stepped up enforcement against the manufacture, sale and flying of kites.
According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), police arrested 8,202 suspects during the crackdown and recovered kites, hazardous strings and other related material from their possession.
Lahore recorded the highest number of violations, with 4,367 cases, followed by Sheikhupura with 1,559 cases.
Rawalpindi region registered 961 cases, while Gujranwala reported 869. Faisalabad recorded 405 cases, Sargodha 316, Sahiwal 289, Gujrat 281, Multan 156, Bahawalpur 40 and Dera Ghazi Khan 29.
Punjab Police have intensified operations against those involved in kite-making, kite-selling and kite-flying as part of efforts to curb the dangerous practice, which has repeatedly caused fatal and serious injuries due to the use of metallic and chemically coated strings.
