Punjab Issues Alert Over Veterinary Medicine Batch

The Punjab government has issued an alert after the Drug Testing Laboratory, Punjab, declared a batch of veterinary medicine spurious.

The Directorate of Drug Control, Punjab, released the alert under Alert No. 130/2026 for Powder for Injection Penivet-5, batch number VL-039, which carries an expiry date of January 2027.

According to the notice, each vial contains Benzyl Penicillin 5,000,000 IU, Procaine Benzyl Penicillin 1,500,000 IU, Streptomycin Sulphate 5 g, and registration number 008032.

The Drug Testing Laboratory classified the product as “spurious” under Section 3(a)(ii) of the Drugs Act, 1976.

The Provincial Quality Control Board has directed retailers, veterinary outlets, wholesalers, distributors and animal healthcare facilities to stop dispensing the affected batch immediately.

It also asked them to report existing stock and usage details to the relevant Drug Inspector or Drug Inspector Distributor.

The notice urged regulators to strengthen surveillance, maintain supply chain records and confiscate the product where necessary.

Market authorization holders, importers and distributors have also been told to review supply and distribution records and report any suspected irregularity immediately.

The public has been advised to stop using the affected batch at once and monitor animals for any unusual signs or side effects.
