ECC Approves Extra Rs. 3 Billion to Buy More Bulletproof Cars
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet on Monday approved another Rs. 3 billion for the purchase of 15 bulletproof sedan vehicles for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council Summit in Islamabad next year.
ECC last week approved Rs. 6.6 billion for the same procurement.
The vehicles will be used during the SCO summit scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in September 2027.
The Cabinet Division had sought the funding through a Technical Supplementary Grant, with the vehicles declared necessary for the secure transportation of visiting heads of state.
ECC emphasized the importance of making timely and comprehensive arrangements for the high-profile international event.
The committee also discussed security and transport arrangements used during the recent SCO heads of state summit in Kyrgyzstan and appreciated those preparations as a model that Pakistan could follow.
The Rs. 3 billion approval will cover the purchase of 15 bulletproof sedans to support secure transportation arrangements for foreign leaders attending the summit.
The SCO Council of Heads of State Summit brings together leaders from member countries, making security arrangements a key requirement for the host country.
