Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the Pishtakhara Underpass project as part of major road upgrades under the Peshawar Revitalisation Plan.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said 19 major routes in Peshawar have been selected for complete renovation, improvement and modern infrastructure development under Phase-I of the plan.
He said Peshawar has long been regarded as the heart of the province and an important part of its historical identity. He added that restoring the city and improving its appearance has been a priority of the provincial government.
Afridi said the upgrades are aimed at improving traffic flow, easing commuting and ensuring there is no compromise on construction quality, financial transparency or project deadlines.
During a briefing, he was informed that Phase-I has been allocated Rs7.2 billion. The scheme has been divided into separate sub-phases, with Phase 1-A covering nine major routes and Phase 1-B including seven key segments.
Phase 1-A includes Bacha Khan Chowk to Pajaggi Ring Road, Dalazak Road, Bacha Khan Chowk to Northern Bypass Road, Ashraf Road to Circular Road, Hashtnagri Road, Faqirabad Road, Khyber Bazaar to Kohat Road, Cinema Road, LRH Road, Ramdas Chowk to GT Road and Lahore Chowk to Inam Sanam Chowk.
Phase 1-B includes Kohat Road to Bara Pul, University Road to Canal Road, Bara Road to Sufion Chowk, Swati Phatak Road to Ring Road and Ring Road at Achini to University Road at Spin Jumaat. The phase also includes improvements to boundary walls, main roads and municipal entry points in Hayatabad.
