Brave has published a new set of desktop browser benchmarks claiming that its browser uses fewer system resources than Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox while also loading webpages faster.
According to Brave’s own testing, its browser used 44% less CPU, 28% less memory, and 10% less energy on average than the three competing browsers.
Brave also said it completed page loads 20% faster, while receiving 26% less inbound data and sending 39% less outbound data.
CPU and Memory Usage
The largest difference in Brave’s tests was CPU usage. Brave averaged around 33% CPU utilization, compared with 47% for Chrome, 53% for Edge, and 78% for Firefox.
Memory consumption was also lower in Brave’s testing.
Brave used approximately 1.2GB of memory, while Chrome consumed around 1.75GB, Edge used 1.62GB, and Firefox used about 1.65GB.
Brave says one of the main reasons for the lower resource usage is its built-in blocking of ads and trackers.
By preventing advertisements, analytics scripts, tracking pixels, and other third-party requests from loading, the browser has fewer background processes and network requests to handle.
Page Loading Performance
Brave completed full webpage loads in approximately 4.4 seconds during the tests.
Chrome took around 5.1 seconds, Firefox required 5.3 seconds, and Edge was the slowest at approximately 6 seconds.
The gap was much smaller when Brave measured Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), which tracks when the main visible content of a webpage appears.
Brave and Chrome both averaged around 2.4 seconds, while Edge and Firefox were only slightly slower at approximately 2.5 seconds.
This suggests that Brave’s larger advantage comes after the main page content has already appeared, as it has fewer advertisements, trackers, analytics requests, and delayed scripts running in the background.
Network Data Usage
Brave also recorded lower network usage than its competitors.
The browser received approximately 4.4MB of data per webpage, compared with 4.8MB for Chrome, 6.3MB for Firefox, and 6.8MB for Edge.
For outbound data, Brave sent an average of 0.18MB per page.
Firefox sent approximately 0.25MB, Edge used 0.30MB, and Chrome recorded the highest outbound traffic at around 0.34MB.
How Brave Conducted the Tests
Brave carried out the benchmarks on an Apple Mac Mini with an M2 chip and 8GB of memory, running macOS 26.5.1.
The company tested the landing pages of the 50 most popular websites, based on Brave Search statistics.
Each website was tested 10 times, using clean browser profiles for every run.
The browser versions used were Brave 1.92.139, Chrome 150, Microsoft Edge 150, and Firefox 146.
Brave, Chrome and Edge are all based on Chromium, while Firefox uses Mozilla’s Gecko browser engine.
The results should still be viewed with some caution because Brave conducted the tests itself rather than using an independent benchmarking organization.
However, the company has published details about its testing setup and methodology, allowing other researchers or users to reproduce and verify the results.
